Form Aesthetics 2

Year

2021

A portable speaker that focuses on providing a surround sound experience for users. The curvature inwards at the sides, look gives off a sleek and minimal aesthetic which is pleasing to the eyes.

Where I got my inspirations from.

The overall form was a combination of organic and soft edges, while combining the use of negative spaces for the sound output. I was looking towards a more sleek yet zen design for the speaker.

Form Analysis

What can be improved.

IMG_3527.jpg

The form of this bluetooth speaker had a good combination of convexity and concavity, in addition, hard lines are shown to have more definition. Two things note is that the base is too small and may cause the overall form to be un balanced and the wire mesh can be placed at the concave portion at the bottom instead,

IMG_3524.jpg

The placement of the buttons of this speaker works well together with the overall form and the placement of the wire mesh is acceptable. One thing to change is the type of trap/handle as in the handle looks slightly out of place.

The placement of the wire mesh for the speaker on the inner portion is interesting but definitely can work more on the placement the buttons and the design of the strap.

Selected Model

Changes need to be made for the form of the buttons especially the dial, more details can be put into it. The hard line that flows from the top to the bottom can be elongated more upwards so that it would not look rigid.

The Process

Documentation the model making process.

To carve the concave portion for the placement of the dial, it's important that the penknife is angled to cut the shape, to ensure that the edges would remain untouched.

It's important to tilt the angle of the penknife at a shallow angle as I would be able to control the amount of material I am removing.
